Funny Friday

Out of nowhere the above scene from The Office came into my mind yesterday. It's so simple but so hilarious. Michael Scott buys cheap vodka in bulk for the office not sure if it'll do the trick to get everyone wasted at the xmas party. Asks the guy for his expert opinion... I just want to see that actor (the liquor store clerk) in more because his response to Michael Scott was perfect.

If you haven't seen the show, I recommend. This is from Season 2 Episode 10.

Anywhoooo - it's been a while since I last updated the blog.

Nolan has started speaking in more and more phrases which has been really cool to hear. "Want it" "Read it" "Oh Nolan" and more. He also, surprisingly, said the name "Christian" the other day while looking through his baby book. I swear it wasn't prompted... he just said "Shishtian! Shishtian!" and it was beyond cute. So of course we had to call his uncle and let him hear it first hand. Luckily when we were on the phone with him (doing facetime) he said it a bunch.

He had his last swimming lesson of the season yesterday. And it was kind of a bust. He didn't want to swim without a toy and he didn't do any kicks or tricks like he was supposed to work on. I think it was a combination of a few things that sparked his crummy mood but mostly the fact that I was sitting on the sidelines and he wanted out. There's nothing that melts your heart more than hearing "Mama" and having your baby reach out for you desperately. Ultimately, his mood made swimming lessons kind of moot and we took him out about 10 minutes early.

I'm headed into a weekend of catching up on laundry and hopefully taking some good naps.

Happy Friday everyone!

Cute Nolanisms

No... No... This!

Nolan, Brian, and I were watching TV yesterday. We went downstairs thinking we were going to watch Elmo (read: Sesame Street) and got the TV set up for the show. When we turned on our Amazon Fire (kind of like a roku) he cries out "veeees! veeeeees!!!" That's Nolan-speak for "movies."

We realized that he wanted to watch one of our digital movies. I bought a few grown up approved movies (ie, movies that wouldn't drive me crazy watching them over and over)

  • Toy Story (1, 2, & 3)
  • Little Mermaid (cuz, I can sing ALL the songs!)
  • Frozen
  • Despicable Me
  • Up (for when I need to cry about 3 minutes into the start of a movie)
He's a big fan of the Toy Story movies. He knows the names Buzz and Woody and thinks they're pretty amazing.

So when we realized he wanted to watch a "vee" instead of "Elmo" I went through our video library.

Little Mermaid... "No"
Frozen... "No"
Toy Story... "Dis!!!!"

So we started playing the movie and Nolan happily settled into my lap for the duration of the movie.

As an aside, that movie is TWENTY years old. Pixar did a helluvah job making that movie. It hasn't aged!

Yeh-go!

I picked Nolan up from daycare this week and Jamie said, "Your son got on top of the slide today and was just belting out "Let it go!" from Frozen."

We started a few lines "Let it go, let it go" and he joined in "Yeh-go! Yeh-go!"

Jamie said she tried to record some of it but when he saw the camera he clammed up. Little stinker.

Disclaimer:
I don't always watch TV with Nolan like this post may seem. But he does get to watch movies on the iPad when we're driving long distances. Or if we're at a restaurant and he's in "I want to run around instead of sit still" mode.

Here's a picture that will make you think I'm doing something right as a parent:

Forward Facing Update

Nolan's been forward facing for less than a week now and I think it's safe to say that he really enjoys it! Most noticeably, he's able to see things out the window as we drive by as opposed to staring at the back of the car seat. We find that he gets a lot of joy out of seeing the buses drive by!

I suppose there really isn't THAT much to update about being forward facing now. Other than the obvious benefits, it's just nice that it works out so easily and that Nolan doesn't seem to dread car rides.

We've had 2 swimming lessons this week!

One time with Brian in the water and yesterday with me in the water. He really seems to be enjoying it! They have little toy duckies that he loves to play with in particular. The only problem is that the pool isn't heated and we're both shivering by the time the lessons are over!

Next week we have swimming lessons AND tumbling. I'm extra super excited for tumbling!!

While grocery shopping this week, Nolan got a little creative with his seating arrangement.

And no, he's not sleeping here, he just happened to have his eyes closed for a moment while I got this picture. I took several others but they were blurry :) It was funny walking down the aisles with little feet sticking out instead of a toddler head and shoulders. I got some smiles from the people as I walked by. I don't know how people with 2 kids ever get anything done at the grocery store. Nolan is a full time job!

Anyways, I hope everyone has a great weekend! TGIF, amirite?

Writers Block

It's Monday again... and with no real direction I'm writing a blog for you to enjoy.

Let's see, this weekend was nice and relaxing. We took Nolan to Reiman Gardens to check out the Butterfly Wing which he loves! And then we explored the rest of the garden afterwards. It was a really nice day, perfect for just getting some fresh air and light exercise by walking around a bunch.

Nolan didn't want to sit for pictures.

In true stinker fashion, he was getting territorial over the benches and "pushed" me off of them... TWICE!

We also put him in a forward facing position in his car seat.

Relax ok? Seriously it was a battle getting him into his rear facing car seat now, his legs were far too long and he's almost 2. But yeah, it is a semi-controversial move to do so before the 2 year mark, but at this point it seemed arbitrary considering the fight that we had every time we put him in the car.

Now it's really nice to be able to turn around quickly and see what's going on. Is he choking? Nope! Good.

For the record, he actually smiled at the change but this was the best I could do picture-wise.

Also, and this is freaking crazy... we went to the grocery store yesterday and as we were walking in we saw a 3 foot long SNAKE in the parking lot!!!!! A REAL SNAKE.

I stopped dead in my tracks and said "OH GOD IS THAT REAL!?"

Brian said he didn't see what I was talking about and thought I was just overreacting to something. Then he saw the LIVE SNAKE writhing it's way towards the back of the parking lot.

The grocery store is across the street from a pet store, so I'm fairly certain that's where the snake came from. To cement this theory, I saw a woman get a paper back from the grocery store and then as I brought Nolan to the car I saw her and someone else putting something into a bag which I swear I saw a little snake tail sticking out of it. And they walked across the street to go back to the pet store.

Sorry I didn't take a pic guys, This was one of those times where I just kept on movin'
